cage bourdom and evrything between that terrible stuff that happens to them!!!i just want the guinea pigs at petsmart to be healthy and happy!
Petsmart is a great place to get your small furry friends but any pet store that sells hamsters or mice will probably carry guinea pigs too. I know ...
Cuys are bred in Peru as a meat source. Guinea pigs are common cuisine in South America, so breeders found a way to breed guinea pigs that are much larger than an average guinea pig to provide more meat. Petco and Petsmart stores in southern California import cuys to their stores because they are cheaper to buy at wholesale than normal guinea pigs.

I don't think all petsmarts are bad; I think it is where you go etc. In the end you just have to look really hard and ask tons of questions and know what to look for. Petsmart separates gender pairs :) I trust them very much with their animals, they know how to handle them, and all Petsmart people love playing and hanging out with them.:D I love Petsmart! I buy my animal stuff there, and I am considering buying a guinea pig there, as of my ONE of my guinea pigs died today from a respiratory infection, because the other guinea pig seems a bit lonely.I'm not sure if I could look myself in the mirror if I agreed to not defame Petsmart. We're also not sure we can bring or even talk about our guinea pigs. The USDA is currently investigating Holmes Farm, and Petco claims to have broken ties with the farm, YET THEY REFUSE TO NAME THEIR 'NEW' SUPPLIER ! Unfortunately, however, places like this are the rule and not the exception when it comes to farms that supply pet stores with smaller animals like rabbits, hamsters, and guinea pigs.
Petsmart and Petco have the power to help stop this horror by making it a storewide policy that the only animals available in their stores come from shelters and rescues. The ramifications there of would be incredible! A policy like this at the largest pet store chains in the country would strike a huge blow against the puppy mill and animal trafficking trade. And Petsmart and Petco could give homeless dogs, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs a chance to find a forever family.
Please sign this petition to urge Petsmart and Petco to help put heartless breeders out of business by only selling animals from shelters and rescues. I'm the kind of person that whenever I'm in a Petsmart, I approach people who are gawking at the guinea pigs or about to buy seed food and ask them "Oh, do you have/are you getting a pig?" And depending on their answer, I'll quietly give them information about how half the feeds there are bad for them and how pet store pigs tend to be ill but there are lots of rescues with fat, healthy piggers who need homes. (Very politely, of course.)
