Recently I adopted 2 guinea pigs from PetSmart. We look them over repeatably before we purchased them and saw no signs of any problems. About 5 days later one of the pigs had a bald spot on the side of it nose about 1 x .5 cm. It seemed to appear overnight. At first we thought it had gotten injured but when it was worse the next day. After some online research that lead us to suspect ringworm we called PetSmart.
I too purchased two male guinea pigs from a Petsmart in Sewell, NJ, and both my daughters and myself came down with ring worm on our necks and chins! When I went back to Petsmart, the one employee was implying I gave the ring worm to the guinea pigs! We never had a problem until I brought them home! They didn’t even offer me my money back on anything I purchased, and only gave me money back one the one guinea pig!

Small Pet Habitats for Rabbits, Guinea Pigs & Hamsters | PetSmart
Petsmart guinea pigs looking for some hay. Notice how both racks are empty?
FYI: This video was not meant to advertise guinea pigs for pet smart. I strongly recommend that if you want to get a guinea pig to please rescue one from a Guinea pig rescue, Do not buy from pet stores because the bulk of their animals comes from mills who's living conditions are deplorable and animals are often forced to breed so they produce more for profit.
An interesting video PETSMART'S DIRTY LITTLE SECRET View in 720p!
Took a video of some guinea pigs and a chinchilla at the local Petsmart to test the new iPhone 4 video camera. Try it in 720p!Petsmart is a great place to get your small furry friends but any pet store that sells hamsters or mice will probably carry guinea pigs too. I know ...The only reason I know this because I was in the similar situation before I knew about guinea pig rescues/adoptions. If you do choose to return her/him make your intentions known that you want her back (exactly what I did). Also if they give you the excuse about "needing to observe her before treatment" be adamant that you know guinea pig illnesses and demand she/he sees a vet (exactly what I did and they took her to the vet that day). They will give you a reference # or request for one so you can call every day for updates (be annoying) which is what I did. After the 14 days of treatment, I was able to bring home my Skittles. I was lucky that the PetSmart I got Skittles from takes their sick Guinea Pigs to my current Exotic Vet (which is known to be the grandfather of exotic vet). However, not all PetSmart/PetCos take their guinea pigs to experience exotic vets.
