The Syrian hamster is one of the most adorable small pets that many American families love. These hamsters are also popularly known as Golden Hamsters or Teddy Bear Hamsters (the long-haired variety) and are likely the most popular hamster varieties kept as pets.
Due to their docile nature, it is very easy to handle these wonderful pets. Even kids can easily handle these pets without any hassle. However, these animals are not as social as dogs or cats. After they reach the age of 4 to 5 weeks, they should be kept alone in separate cages. If you are raising more than one hamster, then buy separate cages for them. Syrians and may kill or seriously injure one another if they are kept together.

These adorable rodents are subject to very few health problems and diseases. All ages can enjoy the company of a hamster. They are great first pets or great last pets. As long as youre responsible youll have an excellent companion. A shout out to the most underrated pet of all time. I am absolutely obsessed with animals, especially my hamster GusGus. I adopted him about two years ago, and it has been the best decision I've ever made! From being my college roomie to family pet, he's been through it all. I do not condone breaking the rules of your university residence hall but hamsters make the best college pets. Make sure you are allowed to have one on campus and if you are, please get one with the intent of taking care of them! Hamsters are not toys; they are living creatures who deserve to be treated with the utmost love and respect. The first steps in getting a hamster may be a bit pricey( I personally spent around $60.00) but other than that hamsters are very cheap pets. Food and bedding last a while and do not cost much. Chinese The Chinese have a length of 4-5 inches and are also known as striped, gray, or rat-tailed hamsters. They are dark gray with a dark stripe down the back and have a longer tail than other hamsters. They can live 2 1/2 – 3 years and can happily live alone. This cute rodent can be quite gentle and can make a terrific pet.
